Stayed home with Lily today. Still fighting the big D. She went out at about 10 this morning and grabbed the eggs, though. There was a light brown and a dark brown. They were already cold. So, they must have been laid much earlier than that.
Josh picked Biscuit up to go to the dog park with him and Koda. So, no dog chasing the chickens today. Hopefully, it will be dry tomorrow so Josh and I can take out the rest of the tree.

Missing eggs
Today, Josh, my son-in-law, came over to cut aa tree down and also to take a bunch of things to the yard waste yard. We didn't get any eggs today because of this. I think it was the sound of the chain saw withing about 15-20 feet of where my ladies lay their eggs. Of course, it could have been from being chased by Koda, Josh's dog. Koda hasn't learned that the chickens are taboo yet. He'll figure out why he keeps getting yelled at while he stares at them.
Josh and I also took a a huge amount of blackberry bushes. Unfortunately, we still have about 20 huges left to take out. Eventually, we will find where the rest of the ladies are laying their eggs.
I think we are going to have to build a pen for the ladies. Tanya doesn't want them on the porch. Neither do I, cause I am the one who will have to clean up the poo. We have to clean out the 20 other huges of berry plants first, though. Then, I'll have room for chicken pen, quail pen, and garden.
Ordered seeds yesterday. Not all the seeds I plan on getting, but most of em.

BBQ sauce
Today, I made BBQ Sauce. I made 2 different types. One, I call Double Smoked BBQ. I use 2t of liquid smoke and 1t smoked Paprika. 2 1/2 cups ketchup, one small onion, 1 large Anaheim pepper, 1t ground mustard, 2t Worcestershire sauce, 2t EVOO, 2 cloves garlic, minced, and a little pepper.
Put the peeled onion and the seeded pepper in a food processor and mince the crud out of it. Then put all the ingredients in the Kitchen Aide and mix it.
Then put it on the stove on medium until it starts to bubble, then turn it down to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Stir as needed to keep it from burning.
Variations would be:
1: Add a hot pepper in the for some heat.
2: Add some corn starch to thicken it.
On the chicken front, we got 2 eggs today. 1 light brown and one dark brown. So, we now know that we have 3 chickens at least laying...
Tomorrow: Maybe more cooking. Salsa maybe

Missin' Chicken.
Went out to feed the feathered pigs and couldn't find one. Thought we might have lost one in the night. All day, we only had 5 and one of the Silkies was jsut not around...I checked over the fences...under the black berries, everywhere (I thought). Round about 4 in the after noon, I let out Biscuit and who do I see, all 6 chickens.
On the egg front, we got a green and a dark brown today...still only know where the 2 are laying...will look some more tomorrow.

Squawkin Chicken
Had Josh over today to help take out the storm-wracked willow tree. As we are cutting, Lovie is loosing her mind. Squawcking and moving between the back yard and the area they have laid their eggs. I was wondering if that was why she was so vocal. We stopped for a few minutes and sure enough, she decides to have a seat in the laying area...took her quite a while to finally lay the egg, but we got one.
Now, if the others would follow her example, I would be a happy chicken camper. Ddaisies tomorrow...then, finish off the tree...Maybe I will cut down the cherry in the front too...Just to get rid of the darm thing.

The eggs are where?
A little bit of an update before I get into the egg issue:
We now have 6 chickens, 0 ducks, and 4 quail. We lost the duck to an unknown attacker a month ago. We lost one chicken to an unknown attacker about 2 months ago, and we lost 2 quail about 2 weeks ago. No idear what killed the quail..
So, the eggs: A few days ago, I found where the chickens have been laying their eggs. It is just on the edge of the brambles by the porch. This is good because they are not getting on the porch as much. Its bad, however, because its not in their house yet. I found a little stash of about 30 eggs. Its great because I now know they are laying...however, after picking them up, I don't know where they have moved their laying area to.
So, tomorrow, I think I shall go on a chicken egg hunt...Maybe then we can get some yummy goodness that is fresh eggs.
